You have a Bird Hunting Season from May through to the end of June,
with Turkey, Goose Pheasant and Duck hunting. Your Turkey and Geese are taken in the
South Canterbury Region of the South Island of New Zealand.
Your Ducks are taken also in South Canterbury and from Lake Tekapo,
high up against the Two Thumb Range in the Southern Alps, in South Canterbury.
The lake is at an altitude of 707 m and covers 83 km². It is fed by the Godley
and Cass Rivers, and from its southern end runs the Tekapo River which crosses
the Mackenzie Basin and joins the Pukaki and Ohau Rivers.
The New Zealand native Paradise Shelduck is similar to a Goose in
call and speed and provides very exciting shooting. This bird is taken from the
Tekapo Region (Tekapo is the name of a lake, a river, and a locality), and from
Waimate in South Canterbury. [Waimate is a town midway between Timaru (45 km to
the north-east) and Oamaru (45 km to the south), 160 km north of Dunedin and 208
km south of Christchurch. It is the administrative centre for the Waimate
District and servicing centre for a sheep farming district, with some dairying,
market gardening, fruitgrowing and berry fruit and flower growing.]
A Licence is required for bird hunting, please see details here
